Research Projects on Sustainable Building in Germany

Various research projects in the field of sustainable building in Germany support the development of new calculation methods, innovative construction products and future regulations.

Developing New Procedures and Testing New Building Methods

The Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community promotes sustainable building through various measures.

Future Building Research Funding

In the case of research funding, research topics from the building industry that are of particular public interest can be formulated individually by the research participants. Funding of these research projects by means of grants serves to meet existing research needs of public interest. When funding decisions are made, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) is supported by independent experts.

Future Building Model Project

In addition, model projects are initiated and supported via the Innovation Program Building the Future. At the end of 2015, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community set up the funding program for "model projects for the sustainable and affordable construction of variable apartments" as part of Future Building (Zukunft Bau) against the backdrop of a rising demand for small and affordable apartments in German cities and conurbations. The program promotes innovative housing projects that offer space-efficient and affordable concepts for the qualitative densification of our cities and conurbations and that develop adaptable building structures in view of the requirements of an ageing, changing society and the high consumption of resources in the construction sector.
